Renovating Your Kitchen? Don’t Miss Out The kitchen Timers

Most things in cooking have a specific amount of time in which they should be in cooking correctly. If you want al dente pasta, you follow the directions on the package and it will tell you exactly how long to cook it. When people don’t let it cook long enough, there will be too much tooth. If you cook it too long, it gets mushy. With kitchen Timers, you aren’t guessing. You also aren’t forgetting. I have a terrible habit of putting something in the oven and then going to the other side of the house and getting caught up in a YouTube video or a game I’m playing. I forget that I’m cooking something and, worse, forget when I put it in and have no idea how long it’s been cooking.

That said, there are things for which time is in estimation. You would still need to check it to see if it’s cooked enough, usually using a thermometer or some other testing device. The timer is still essential because it doesn’t let you forget you have something cooking and it tells you when to check on it.

Kitchen Timers Used As Oven Timers

Most oven timers have more than one mode;

· The first is just a countdown timer and doesn’t switch anything. It can be used to time anything in the kitchen from boiled eggs on the hob to steak standing time.

· The second is an automatic shutoff timer where you enter the cooking time, and the oven shuts down once that time is to reach. This is useful if you have a lot going on, and you don’t want to risk burning the food. Useful during parties and Christmas.

· The third is fully automatic where you set either the start and finish time, or more commonly nowadays the duration (Cooking time) and the end time (The oven works out the start time for you). This is especially useful if the food that you are cooking takes quite a long time to prepare and you want it to prepare when you arrive home. I would typically use this for a family meal on a Friday night like roast chicken or lasagna.

Caution To Remember

One word of warning, though, some food may go wrong if left warming up for an extended period in an oven. I would typically use the menu straight from the fridge in a room at approximately 16C for 6 hours. A fresh chicken sitting in a warm oven for 10 hours before cooking probably isn’t a good idea.

There are potentially two timers on a stove. One is just a timer that will beep when the timer is at zero. The other is to provide on most stoves where you input the start time and temperature and how long you want the oven on. It may be in identification as bake time or the equivalent. The oven will shut off at the end of the bake time. One must take proper care.
